I was not a fan of Ahern before this. I for one did not like P.S. I Love You, but this book seemed like such an interesting concept that I had to read it. I'm glad that I did. I stayed up until almost four in the morning on a work night to finish it. I don't understand the other commentators who said that the concept isn't new. It isn't? I haven’t read, or even heard of, a book about your life showing up in physical form to try and make you fix it and I have read tens of thousands of books in my life, possibly into the hundred thousand. So it was new to me and I loved the idea. Life, Lucy's life, starts sending her cards asking her to meet with him and she ignores him until she can't take the hounding any longer. Life is a physical person and we all have one slogging away somewhere keeping notes of our lives. How happy and healthy our "Life" is depends on us. The big and little decisions that we make every day have power even when we can't see that power in front of us.This book was more than a novel, more than fiction. Ahern really gives the reader a lot to think about and some advice that's well needed. Life shouldn't (and really isn't) about keeping up with others and looking good. It's about being happy and owning who we are. This books shows that so well. When I finished it I even got out a notebook and made some notes about my own life. It's a thought provoking book that has more power than a hundred so called "self-help" books that I've read. But that's what good fiction is supposed to be about. Good fiction tells a tale, draws you in and makes you think. It entertains and enlightens and that's exactly what Ahern has done here. Highly recommend this book for pure pleasure reading and also if you're feeling down or uncertain of your life or your life choices.

I can't recommend this book enough! The writing is charming and very funny. Once I started I couldn't wait to see what happened next. More importantly, I found this book is very relatable. I, like Lucy am knocking on 30's door. Not quite where I should be/thought I'd be in my career. Keep many parts of myself hidden from even close friends for the convenience of explaining the full story. And have a very "complicated" relationship with my family, to say the least. It was great to read how Lucy had to come to terms with the fact that she isn't in fact "fine." To see the messes she makes in all aspects of her life and ultimately how she ends up making it right.
Cecilia is my favorite author. My first year of college I read ps I love you. It had just come out and it gripped me and helped me to realized that I love to read. This book has done the same. After a year away from books, this book helped me to find my escape again. Always easy reads that leave you wanting more. Somewhat predictable but only in the way that they feel intensely familiar like a lost cousin you knew as a child. Thank you, C for keeping us draped in Irish lace and dreaming of cobbled streets.

This author is one who always writes stories that have a little element of magic to them. This book has Life, a person who solely exists to document your life and can help you out if you let your life get out of control. I love the idea of this person who you can talk things through with to help you figure yourself out.
My favorite thing about this book is the characterization. Lucy, the main character, feels like a person. She tells white lies that lead her to tell more white lies, until no one knows how she is really feeling or what is really going on in her life. She got her job under slightly false pretenses, and her whole life is a bit of a sham. But she also banters with a new friend, develops a relationship with Life, and forms a rocky sort of relationship with her neighbor. She is very much like a real person, and I love that.
Life was an interesting character because he is a person, but his whole life revolves around Lucy's life. It's a strange concept. His appearance at the beginning of the book is a bit bedraggled, as is Lucy's life, but as the story progresses and Lucy's life improves, so does the appearance of Life. This is a neat little detail that adds some characterization to Life.
I thought this book was definitely worth reading. The slightly magical elements to it add something fresh, but the basis of the story is about changing your life for the better, something I think we can all relate to. Ahern makes her characters believable and relatable, while also telling a good story. Even if you don't pick up this book, she's an author worth reading.
Lucy's life is a mess. She's living in a tiny apartment where her rack of clothes has to double as the curtains. She's still hanging on to her past relationship with a globe trotting boyfriend who dumped her almost three years ago. A lie on her resume helped Lucy land her most recent job after she was fired from a much more lucrative one. And then the letters from her life began to arrive. She refuses to respond to them, but her life is persistent.
When I started reading this book, I thought I'd never make it to the end. The first ten pages or so seemed to drag on forever with long sentences. I couldn't make heads or tails of where I might be headed. Then Lucy finally decides to meet with her life and let the fun begin. They don't exactly hit it off. We could all say we've had some disagreements with our lives at some point in time. That's all I needed, I was hooked.
The Time of My Life is funny, charming and witty. It's fast, romantic and funny with a unique fantasy twist. Life refused to go away even when Lucy tried to ignore him. And just as Lucy learns to love her life, you will too.
